Celebration of Black History Month, February 23, 2010 : CBAAC celebrated the year 2010 edition of the annual Black History Month in grand style. The event which held at the Trenchard Hall of University of Ibadan , Ibadan on 23 rd February, 2010 , featured a public lecture titled: Arts and Heritage as Catalysts for Development in Africa . The lecture was delivered by Prof Charles Binam Bikoi, Executive Secretary, The Regional Centre for Research and Documentation on Oral Tradition and the Development of African Languages, CERDOTOLA, Cameroun . In line with its tradition, this year's event was designed to explore the inherent potentials of African arts, heritage and traditions. It also served as an avenue for effectively projecting Africa 's significant contribution to human advancement. The event was climaxed by the official commissioning of a week-long exhibition at the Centre's outreach office at the Institute of African Studies , University of Ibadan , Ibadan . The occasion had in attendance: Prof Akachi Adimorah Ezeigbo, Chairperson of the occasion, Mr. Tuga Musa Karam, representative of the Honourable Minister for Tourism, Culture and National Orientation; Mr. Dauda Bundot, representative of Senator Bako Gassol, Chairman, Senate Committee on Culture and Tourism, Prof Bolanle Awe, Emeritus Prof. Olumuyiwa Awe, Prof Akinwumi Isola, Mr Walter L. Von den Driesch, Consular-General of the Federal Republic of Germany to Nigeria, Mr. Peter Pinesse from the Consular General of the American Embassy, Dr. Backlays Ayakoroma, Executive Secretary, National Institute of Cultural Orientation, NICO, Mr. Martin Adaji, Ag. Director General, National Troupe of Nigeria, Prof Ibrahim Maina Waziri, department of history, University of Maiduguri, Prof Benjamin Olatunji Oloruntimehin, first and second reviewer respectively, Prof Dele Layiwola, Director Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan and representative of the Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan among other principal staff of the University of Ibadan to mention a few.
Collaborative Relationships: The Centre concretized collaborative relationship with the Brazilian Government through Brazil's Special Secretariat for the Promotion of Policies on Racial Equality (SEPPIR), the Presidency, Brazil with the signing of an MOU covering broad areas of cross-national and cross-continental relationship with special emphasis on the promotion of cultural rights and racial equality, researches and exchanges among other areas of importance to Black and African culture and history. This was a fall-out of two successful International Colloquia hosted by the Centre and held in Rio de Janeiro as well as Brasilia , Brazil in 2008 and 2009 respectively. The MOU with Brazil through SEPPIR was jointly signed by His Excellency Edson Santos, Honourable Minister of SEPPIR on behalf of the Brazilian Government on the one hand, and Senator Jibril Bello Gada, Nigerian former Minister for Tourism, Culture and National Orientation on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria on Monday 15 th of March, 2010 in Abuja, Nigeria.
Co-Sponsorship of an International Conference on: Migration and Settlement Patterns in Yorubaland with Institute of Cultural Studies, Obafemi Awolowo University , Ile-Ife , 11 th 14 th March, 2010. Dignitaries and participants in attendance included: Professor Anthony Asiwaju , leading specialist on the History of Migration and Settlement , gave the keynote address titled: Being Migrants and Settlers ; Prof. Michael Faborode, Vice-Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife; HRH Oba Dokun Abolarin, the Orangun of Oke-Ila, Oke-Ila Orangun, Osun State, Hon. Justice Bola Babalakin, JSC (Retired); Prof. Elisee Soumoni, Universite d'Abomey-Calavi, Benin Republic; Prof Akinwumi Isola and Prof. Biodun Adediran, Director, Linkages and Sponsored Research, Obafemi Awolow University, Ile-Ife among others. The Conference jointly hosted in memory of Prof. (Emeritus) Isaac Adeagbo Akinjogbin, renowned historian and accomplished Nigerian also had seventy-five paper presenters drawn from various institutions of higher learning across Nigeria and the neighbouring Benin Republic . All the papers presented at the conference touched on the circumstances of migration, and highlighted the peculiarities of settlement pattern of the Yoruba as well as drew attention to the need for proper documentation of this and similar histories.
The Centre, in collaboration with the Odia Ofeimun Committee of Friends hosted a Public Lecture on : Sudan and Congo: What Lessons for Nigeria . The lecture was delivered by Prof Mahmood Mamdani, an expert in African history, politics and International relations and the Herbert Lehman Prof of Government in the Department of Anthropology and Political Science at Columbia University in the United States of America, at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Victoria Island, Lagos on the 16 th of March, 2010 in celebration of Odia Ofeimun 60 th birthday anniversary. The Public Lecture was hosted to honour Mr. Odia Ofeimun, a distinguished artist and culture activist. The platform was used to highlight Odia's significant achievements and landmark contributions to human development especially as regards arts and culture. The occasion was also used as an interactive forum to share experiences on issues of common concern to Black and African peoples. It had in attendance: Prof Wole Soyinka; Chairman of the occasion; Prof. Biodun Jeyifo; Mr. Fola Adeola; Dr. Kayode and Mrs. Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi; Prof Chidi Odinkalu; Ambassador Segun Olusola; Mr. Femi Falana; Prof. Olatunde Makanju; Otunba Semiu Adesina Bakinson, Chairman CBAAC Board and representative of Jibril Bello Gada; then Minister for Tourism, Culture and National Orientation ; Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi to mention a few.
Annual Get-together and Merit Award : The annual End of the Year Party which was instituted some years back was held on the 25 th of March, 2010 at the National Theatre Annex. The occasion also featured the presentation of Merit and Long Service Award to deserving staff of the Centre. The occasion had in attendance: Rev. Mrs. Anuli Ausbeth-Ajagu, Special Guest of Honour; Otunba Semiu Adesina Bakinson, Chairman CBAAC Board; Heads of sister parastatals in Lagos, i.e National Theatre, National Troupe, National Gallery of Arts (NGA), National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as well as guests from all walks of life.
