INTRODUCTION
In the discharge of its statutory functions, CBAAC hosts conferences, workshops and symposia. Some of these are either held locally or internationally. The Centre, in collaboration with the Pan African Strategic and Policy Research Group (PANAFSTRAG) held an International Conference at the University of West Indies, St. Augustine , Trinidad and Tobago. The conference was titled, “Advancing and Integrating Research in the Interest of Africa and the African Diaspora”, from the 7 th -11 th of November, 2006.
OBJECTIVES
- To harness and integrate research and studies between continental and Diaspora Africa.
- To give more Afrocentric focus to the study of African affairs.
- To create a forum for scholars and researchers to brainstorm on matters of common interest to continental and Diaspora Africa.
- The hosting of the Conference in Trinidad and Tobago is to give emphasis to the international and Pan African mandate of CBAAC.
REPORT ON THE CONFERENCE
The Conference actually held from the 7 th -11 th of November, 2006. About thirteen countries drawn from various parts of the world were in attendance. This memo is to serve as a report to the Board as one of the major activities of CBAAC for 2006.
The event which had in attendance journalists from Nigeria received wide media coverage locally and internationally. In all, it was adjudged a huge success. |
